Senator Judy Ward and Representative Rich Irvin have announced that the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) has allocated laptops to local organizations in Huntingdon County. The Broad Top Area Medical Center will receive 110 laptops, while Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 will receive 25. This initiative is part of the Digital Connectivity Technology Program (DCTP), which aims to provide technology devices to communities where affordability limits broadband access.

"Access to a computer and up-to-date technology is critical in today’s digital age," said Senator Ward. "By providing the Broad Top Area Medical Center and Tuscarora Intermediate Unit with these laptops through this award, they will be better able to serve residents of Huntingdon County and improve the community’s quality of life."

Representative Irvin added, "These laptops will go a long way in helping Broad Top Area Medical Center and Tuscarora Intermediate Unit continue their high level of excellence in the county. I have, and will continue, to support our rural health care centers receiving the assistance they need to deliver the same quality of care as our larger urban hospitals. And, Tuscarora IU will put these laptops to good use serving students."

The DCTP program is supported by $20 million in federal funding and assists public-facing community anchor institutions such as libraries, schools, municipalities, workforce training organizations, and other non-profits. Eligible projects focus on providing devices that facilitate broadband internet access while advancing digital literacy and skills training.

To ensure transparency and measurable progress, PBDA requires grantees to submit quarterly and annual reports detailing project successes and accomplishments. These reports include information on how access to technology has impacted the community.

This distribution of awards is part of Pennsylvania's ongoing efforts to enhance digital access throughout the state. The goal is to close the digital divide and build stronger communities for all citizens.
