Senator Judy Ward has announced that the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) awarded a grant exceeding $415,000 to the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library. This funding aims to enhance internet access in Blair County.
"Public access to the internet is essential, and community anchor institutions such as libraries play a critical role in providing that access, particularly in rural areas," stated Ward. She added that the funding would lead to significant improvements at the library, transforming it into a modernized community center offering residents connectivity benefits for education, workforce development, healthcare, and other vital resources.
The project will involve major renovations and enhancements to increase the library's functionality and usability. Such investments are crucial for maintaining libraries and similar non-profit organizations as key public hubs.
The grant is part of a larger $45 million initiative funded through the federally backed Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program. This program supports projects aimed at enhancing high-speed broadband access for essential services via community anchor institutions.
To ensure transparency and track progress, PBDA mandates grantees submit quarterly and annual reports on project advancement and compliance with federal standards. A final report due within three months of project completion will assess the grant's impact, including outcomes and sustainability efforts. The release of the final 10% of funding depends on this report's thorough review.
This investment aligns with Pennsylvania's broader mission to strengthen community infrastructure by creating accessible public spaces that support work, education, and health needs.
