Senator Judy Ward and Representative Jesse Topper have announced that the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) has awarded 50 laptops to two organizations in Fulton County. The Fulton County Library and Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 will each receive 25 laptops through the Digital Connectivity Technology Program (DCTP). This program aims to provide technology devices to communities where cost has hindered broadband adoption.

“Access to a computer and up-to-date technology is critical in today’s digital age,” said Senator Ward. She emphasized that these laptops would equip residents and students with essential tools for learning and success.

Representative Topper added, “These laptops will provide residents with access to information so they will stay well informed, help children learn, and are tools for those seeking employment.” He noted the significance of increased technology access in rural areas as a means of community improvement.

The DCTP program is supported by $20 million in federal funding. It assists public-facing community anchor institutions such as libraries, schools, municipalities, workforce training organizations, and other non-profits. Eligible projects aim to facilitate broadband internet access while promoting digital literacy and skills training.

To ensure transparency and track progress, PBDA requires grantees to submit quarterly and annual reports detailing project successes and community impact from increased technology access.

This initiative is part of Pennsylvania's broader strategy to enhance digital access across the state, reinforcing efforts to bridge the digital divide for its citizens.
