Senator Judy Ward and Representative Rich Irvin have announced that the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) has allocated over $3.6 million in grant funding to two organizations in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. The recipients of these funds are Juniata College and the East Broad Top Foundation.

“These two capital investments in Huntingdon County are exciting for the community,” stated Senator Ward. She emphasized that the Juniata College project would significantly improve healthcare services by creating new space for a nursing program and medical offices. Additionally, she highlighted that restoring two bridges will aid in expanding the East Broad Top Railroad, fostering tourism and economic development.

Representative Irvin also expressed support for these initiatives, noting the importance of addressing healthcare access challenges in rural areas through projects like Juniata College's Community Health Redevelopment Project. He added that enhancing recreational opportunities via the East Broad Top Foundation's efforts could further increase economic benefits as more visitors are drawn to an expanded rail route.

Juniata College received $2 million to establish a nursing school. This includes preparing a site for construction, improving drainage and wastewater systems, creating parking areas, ensuring a secure building envelope with essential systems like fire protection, and developing new office and medical spaces.

The East Broad Top Foundation was awarded over $1.6 million for its strategic restoration plan aimed at bringing two bridges back into service to extend the tourist rail route experience. The Pogue Bridge is a historic structure crossing Aughwick Creek, while Three Springs Bridge spans Three Springs Creek and remains visible from nearby highways.

RACP is a $3.1 billion initiative managed by the Office of the Budget to fund development projects enhancing economic, civic, cultural, recreational or historical aspects of communities.
