HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has approved funding of over $6 million in grants and low-interest loans for the Bellwood Borough Authority's waterline and lead projects. The announcement was made by Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair/Huntingdon), who has been advocating for the funds.

The Bellwood Borough Authority's lead project will receive a grant of $280,079, along with a loan of $211,101, totaling $491,120. These funds will be used to strengthen existing service connections by replacing lead or galvanized components. The aim is to ensure that the entire service line structure consists of acceptable materials.

Meanwhile, the authority's waterline project will receive a grant of $3,437,176, accompanied by a loan of $2,410,569, totaling $5,847,745. With these funds, the authority plans to replace existing cast iron water distribution with leaded joints. Additionally, around 19 feet of 3- to 8-inch ductile iron water distribution main, along with associated valves, will be replaced. Furthermore, twenty-one fire hydrants and service connections will be installed within certain areas of Bellwood Borough and a small portion of Antis Township.

Rep. Jim Gregory expressed his satisfaction with the approval of the funding, stating, "I have been proudly advocating to help deliver these funds for the Bellwood Borough Authority. The approval of this funding will provide the authority with the resources needed to continue to supply an ample amount of clean and safe water for its customers."

PENNVEST, founded in 1988, plays a crucial role in providing grants and low-interest loans for the design, engineering, and construction of drinking water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as storm and wastewater projects for both public and private entities.

The funding provided by PENNVEST will ensure that the Bellwood Borough Authority can maintain a reliable and efficient water supply system, delivering clean and safe water to its customers. The investments made in replacing lead or galvanized components and upgrading water distribution infrastructure will contribute to the overall well-being of the community and the environment.
