Several community-improvement projects in Bedford County have received nearly $3 million in funding, as announced by Representative Jesse Topper and Senator Pat Stefano. The funds are allocated for various infrastructure enhancements through the Local Share Account via the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

Senator Stefano emphasized the importance of these improvements, stating, “I’m grateful to see this funding go toward essential equipment and infrastructure improvements that will expand our municipalities’ ability to operate more effectively and efficiently. Public safety is paramount – so whether it’s roadway maintenance or a necessary school roof replacement, we must remain dedicated to keeping residents safe and constantly look for ways to best enhance the quality of life throughout Bedford County.”

The funded projects include:

- Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company: $400,000 for a new fire station in Schellsburg Borough.

- West Providence Township Municipal Authority: $704,500 for pump station improvements.

- Cumberland Valley Township: $148,981 for purchasing a tractor with side mower.

- Hopewell Borough: $28,999 for a tractor purchase and $156,195 for sewer line replacements.

- Londonderry Township: $94,880 for acquiring a mini excavator.

- Napier Township: $300,000 for a grader to maintain township roads.

Additionally, two school districts received grants under the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program. Representative Topper highlighted the significance of these grants by saying, “Ensuring our students have a safe place in which to learn is essential. These grants address building issues, creating the learning environment students deserve.”

The Bedford Area School District was awarded $1.2 million for roof repairs at Bedford High School. This project aims to improve air quality and reduce maintenance costs by addressing leaking issues.

Northern Bedford County School District received $500,000 to replace windows and improve plumbing at Northern Bedford County Elementary School. The project involves installing new PVC pipes and replacing all windows.

Tussey Mountain School District obtained $391,885 for window replacements and energy-saving measures at Tussey Mountain Elementary School. The initiative includes installing bullet-resistant glass windows and replacing exterior doors with steel doors.
