Several fire companies and emergency medical service providers in the 79th Legislative District have received close to $90,000 through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner’s Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program. This announcement was made by Representative Lou Schmitt and Senator Judy Ward.

Rep. Lou Schmitt expressed gratitude for the first responders' efforts: “The funding will help these vital emergency service providers continue to answer calls for help in our community,” he stated. He added, “I cannot thank the first responders enough for what they do for our neighbors. Their work never goes unnoticed.”

Senator Judy Ward emphasized the importance of these grants, stating, “These annual grant awards support the needs of our Fire and EMS providers so they are equipped to help those who call on them in times of desperate need.” She highlighted their essential role in rural communities, noting their dedication and hard work.

The grant funds are allocated for various purposes such as facilities, equipment, debt reduction, training, and education. Career departments may also use this funding to cover overtime costs incurred when firefighters attend training sessions.
