The Pennsylvania House Republican Leadership Team has expressed their condolences following the passing of Representative Matt Gergely, a Democrat from Allegheny. The leadership team includes Leader Jesse Topper, Whip Tim O’Neal, Appropriations Chairman Jim Struzzi, Caucus Chairman Martina White, Caucus Administrator Sheryl Delozier, Caucus Secretary Clint Owlett, and Policy Committee Chairman David Rowe.
In a joint statement, they said: “We join in grieving the loss of our friend and colleague, Rep. Matt Gergely. Matt left behind a young family, and we send them our condolences, as well as our thoughts and prayers.”
The statement highlighted Gergely's brief but impactful tenure in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. "While Matt was only in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives a short time," it read, "his commitment to his family and community were deeply felt among his peers and he quickly earned friends and respect on both sides of the aisle. His voice and presence will be missed both in Harrisburg and southeast Allegheny County."
Gergely's contribution to his community and his ability to earn respect across party lines were emphasized by his colleagues during this difficult time.
