Pennsylvania House Republican leaders have expressed their approval of a recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision regarding mail-in and absentee ballots. The court ruled in the case of Republican National Committee v. All 67 County Boards of Elections that counties should not count ballots that do not comply with the state's Election Code.
House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler and incoming Leader Jesse Topper issued a joint statement praising the decision. They stated, "We applaud the decision of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to order counties to not count mail-in and absentee ballots that fail to comply with the Pennsylvania Election Code."
The leaders emphasized that this ruling aligns with previous interpretations of the Election Code, which requires ballots to be correctly dated to be valid. "A law is not confusing or inconsistent merely because people do not like it," they noted.
Cutler and Topper further commented on the implications of this decision for ongoing election processes. They suggested that Senator Bob Casey should concede to Senator-elect Dave McCormick, arguing it would save resources and prevent unnecessary disputes over election validity.
The statement concluded by reinforcing their position on adhering strictly to the legal requirements outlined in the state's Election Code.
