Today, Congressmen John Joyce and Lloyd Smucker announced the formation of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives. The caucus aims to support Americans in living healthier lives through access to affordable, high-quality foods and improved primary care access. Senator Roger Marshall will lead the caucus in the Senate.
The MAHA Caucus plans to collaborate with the incoming Trump Administration on building a healthier nation. Congressman Joyce stated, “As a doctor, I recognize that healthy foods and physical activity play an important role in every American life.” He emphasized Pennsylvania's contribution to providing nutritious food and expressed eagerness to work with colleagues like Congressman Smucker and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Congressman Smucker highlighted America's health crisis, citing declining life expectancy and rising chronic diseases as significant concerns. He noted federal policies' role in these issues and stressed the need for action: “There is a real need to address these public health emergencies.”
Congressman Buchanan also voiced his support for promoting healthy lifestyles: “The chronic disease epidemic accounts for the vast majority of healthcare costs, disabilities, and deaths in the United States.”
Founding members of the MAHA Caucus include several representatives from various states who are committed to advancing policies that promote healthier living among Americans.
Before joining Congress, Dr. Joyce practiced medicine for over 25 years in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
