Rep. Lou Schmitt of Altoona is organizing an event to provide free replacement for damaged license plates. This initiative aims to assist residents whose plates have become unreadable over time.

"Quite often, license plates become illegible with age," Schmitt explained. "This event will give residents the option to get new, legible license plates replaced in a very easy manner."

The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 11, from 4-6 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona. Participants are required to bring their unexpired Pennsylvania driver's license and current vehicle registration card. The service is available only for standard or personalized plates; specialty plates cannot be processed at this event and require direct contact with PennDOT for replacement.

A plate is considered illegible if it cannot be recognized from 50 feet or shows signs of blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity.

For further details, individuals can call 814-946-7218.
