The Strawberry Hills Soccer Complex in Logan Township has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program. This announcement was made by Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) and Rep. Lou Schmitt (R-79).
Senator Ward commented on the significance of this investment, stating, "Youth soccer is a growing sport, and Logan Township has developed a solid vision for this complex to promote growth of the sport here." She emphasized that the state investment will enhance soccer facilities in the Altoona area, potentially attracting tournaments and visitors that could positively impact the local economy.
The funding will be utilized by Logan Township to install various site amenities at the complex. These include a playground, pavilions, bleachers, a netting system, picnic tables, trash cans, a storage building, and utilities.
Representative Schmitt highlighted the recreational benefits for residents and noted that once completed, "the sports complex could serve as an economic driver through it hosting soccer tournaments." He praised Logan Township officials for their initiative and acknowledged the Commonwealth Financing Authority's role in recognizing the project's potential benefits.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority is responsible for managing state investments in projects aimed at supporting Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
