Senator Judy Ward and Representative Kerry Benninghoff have announced that Bratton Township will receive over $6.4 million in state funding to enhance its wastewater treatment facilities. This financial support aims to improve the township's infrastructure without burdening residents with significant fee increases.
"Clean water and efficient water treatment is one of the most vital needs a community has," stated Senator Ward. She emphasized that the PENNVEST funding will assist Bratton Township in maintaining essential services while ensuring a safe environment for its residents.
The allocated funds will be used for various upgrades at the wastewater treatment plant, including constructing a new building for screening incoming wastewater, installing new treatment tanks, and replacing the current ultraviolet disinfection system. Additionally, two pump stations are set to be replaced as part of this project.
Representative Benninghoff highlighted the importance of this investment, noting that it prevents an "180% increase in user fees" for local residents. He described the initiative as both an extensive overhaul and a crucial investment in community health and safety.
The project's financing includes a loan exceeding $900,000 with a 1% interest rate over 20 years, alongside nearly $5.5 million in non-repayable funds. The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), an independent state agency providing financial assistance for water-related projects across Pennsylvania, is facilitating this funding.
