Senator Judy Ward and Representative Perry Stambaugh have announced that Port Royal will receive close to $3.7 million in state funding to enhance its municipal wastewater treatment plant. The funding aims to improve the quality of life for residents by upgrading essential infrastructure.

“This funding provides for much-needed wastewater treatment facility improvements that will increase the quality of life for the surrounding community,” Ward stated. She highlighted the importance of low-interest loans from PENNVEST, which allow rural areas like Port Royal to upgrade critical infrastructure without incurring extra financial burdens.

The project includes the installation of an ultraviolet disinfection system, updates to computer technology systems, and other necessary improvements. Additionally, pump stations will be rehabilitated with one being rerouted.

“Upgrades to the wastewater system in Port Royal will ensure residents are well served for decades to come,” said Stambaugh, emphasizing the importance of reliable infrastructure in enhancing community livability.

The financial package consists of a nearly $2.4 million loan paired with an additional $1.3 million in non-repayable funds. The 20-year loan carries a 1% interest rate.

This project is funded through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), which supports sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects across Pennsylvania communities.
