Bridge dedication to honor Pvt. Clyde C. McVitty in Orrstown

A ceremony will be held to dedicate the bridge carrying State Route 997 over Conodoguinet Creek in Letterkenny Township as the Pvt. Clyde C. McVitty Memorial Bridge. McVitty served with the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd “All-American” Airborne Division and was killed in action during the Anzio Beach landing on February 9, 1944. Representative Rich Irvin (R-Franklin/Huntingdon) authored the bill naming the bridge.

Participants in the event include Rep. Irvin; Rev. William Kauffman; Lurgan Township Supervisor Lawrence “Chip” Kolb Jr.; Sam Worley, former Franklin County commissioner and World War II veteran; Minutemen of American Legion Post #223 Shippensburg; and the family of McVitty.

The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 30, at 2:30 p.m., at Lurgan Lions Club, located at 13978 Cumberland Hwy, Orrstown, PA.
