H

Kim Clear spoke to the Jefferson Educational Society yesterday afternoon, August 18th, 2022, at Veterans Park. The talk focused on where Millcreek’s been, where the Township is now and the plans for Millcreek Township’s future development.

“What does our future look like?” Kim asked.

“What does our future look like?”

The question above cannot be answered before considering two others.  What makes Millcreek Township strong now?  What lessons can be learned from Millcreek's heritage?

“We belong to an economically resilient 21st century Millcreek Township that provides a safe, family-oriented community". Kim went on to define some of the top reasons people choose Millcreek now.

However, as Millcreek looks to the future, it is hard to not recognize that the passion, strength, creativity and ingenuity of residents as a crucial resource.  It would not be possible to develop a distinct identity, continued growth and further development of the Township's natural resources without the incredible and hard-working people of Millcreek Township. In-fact, Millcreek was initially founded on this hard working spirit.

Embracing her prior career as a teacher, Kim gave a history lesson about the Township. Millcreek was the first settlement in the Erie Triangle and officially founded in 1803. Named for its thriving milling industry, Millcreek was also a major fishing hub. Over time it grew to include a thriving small business community and more development around the natural beauty of Presque Isle.

From this tradition, Millcreek will only continue to grow.

“Millcreek Township is filled with vibrant commerce, employment opportunities, affordability, cohesive neighborhoods, accessible green spaces, environmental sustainability and healthy living"

Kim also clarified that building a welcoming community is important, and it all starts with the family.

"I want everyone to see all of the different people choosing to live here...families from every background" Kim said.

Multi-culturalism, diversity and inclusivity are all core components of families choosing Millcreek Township. To stay competitive in the future Millcreek recognizes and embraces its unique make-up. Millcreek is home to everyone.

Beyond the vital aspects of community and family, Kim laid out some points that would make Millcreek Township thrive in the future, "Further, Millcreek Township is filled with vibrant commerce, employment opportunities, affordability, cohesive neighborhoods, accessible green spaces, environmental sustainability, and healthy living".

Millcreek has abundant opportunity to draw on a hard-working tradition and current strengths to define a community residents can be proud of.
