Washington, DC – Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) released a statement regarding the recent legislation aimed at safeguarding American security.
"To be clear, the House would never be voting on this package of legislation if it were not for President Biden’s weak and ineffective leadership," stated Congressman Joyce. He emphasized the importance of providing support to Israel, mentioning, "This bill provides the weapons that Israel will need to defeat the Hamas terrorists and Iranian proxies that have destabilized the Middle East."
In addressing the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party, Congressman Joyce highlighted the significance of the legislation in supporting Taiwan and enforcing actions against companies like ByteDance, saying, "Further, this legislation will confront the growing threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party by providing support to Taiwan and implementing legislation passed earlier this year in the House to force ByteDance to fully divest from TikTok."
While stressing the importance of assisting allies in facing adversities, Congressman Joyce expressed his reservations about certain aspects of the legislation. He mentioned, "While supporting our allies in their fights against hostile adversaries is important, it is not the job of the United States to bankroll the paychecks and pensions of Ukrainian officials while our border remains unsecured and inflation continues to skyrocket. For that reason, I did not support the Ukrainian aid supplemental." He further added, "It’s critical that any funding for Ukraine is tied to the border security that we so desperately need here at home."
The statement from Congressman Joyce reflects his views on the national security legislation and the intricacies involved in addressing various global challenges while considering domestic priorities.
