State Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) has announced a significant allocation of $2.55 million for a farm wastewater project in Warriors Mark, Huntingdon County. The funding is aimed at addressing environmental concerns related to nutrient and sediment runoff from Conrad Family Farms, a 1,400-acre agricultural operation.

The project at Conrad Family Farms, which houses over 950 animals in owned and rented bank barns near streams leading to Warriors Mark Run, will involve the construction of key infrastructure. This includes the establishment of roofed heavy-use areas, manure stacking buildings, roof runoff controls, stormwater control measures, waterline and stormwater pipes, an access lane, and an infiltration ditch. These developments are projected to significantly reduce the annual entry of pollutants into Warriors Mark Run, with an estimated reduction of 5,800 pounds of nitrogen, 125 pounds of phosphorus, and 11,500 pounds of sediment.

Senator Ward emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating, "Managing runoff that can damage our waterways is a struggle for many farms." She highlighted the positive impact of the funding in enabling the implementation of Best Management Practices that will enhance water quality in Warriors Mark Run.

The funding for this project was secured through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), an agency that provides financial assistance for water, sewer, and stormwater projects across the state. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
