ALTOONA – Blair County will see improved high-speed internet thanks to a grant of more than $1.8 million approved by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA), Rep. Lou Schmitt (R-Altoona) announced.

"This funding will help increase internet capabilities and reliability for Blair County residents," stated Schmitt. "In a world of connectivity, this improvement to our overall infrastructure package should help attract more people and businesses to the area."

In addition to the $1.8 million solely for Blair County, companies that supply the internet to the region, including Blair County, received a combined $11.8 million to improve service.

Made feasible by the federally funded Broadband Infrastructure Program, a total of $200 million in competitive grants was awarded for projects across the state lacking 25/3 Mbps internet service.

Founded in 2021 at the direction of the General Assembly, the PBDA’s mission is to close the digital divide. This was the first round of grants to be awarded.

Representative Lou Schmitt of the 79th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives shared this positive development for Blair County.
