Dr. Joyce Votes to Cut Wasteful Spending, Support PA-13

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) voted in favor of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, which aims to reduce funding for certain government agencies while prioritizing veterans' healthcare and projects in Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District.

In a statement, Congressman Joyce expressed his commitment to fiscal responsibility and supporting essential priorities, stating, “Since coming to Congress, I’ve fought to rein in government spending while protecting the priorities that matter most to the men and women who call our district home.”

The Congressman highlighted the significance of the bill in cutting funding for agencies that have targeted conservative values, such as the FBI and ATF. He emphasized the positive impact of the bill, mentioning specific community projects that would benefit from the appropriations, including fire stations in Cambria County and improvements to the safety of I-81 in Franklin County. Congressman Joyce stated, “These significant cuts to federal agencies... are a step in the right direction for our country and for our district.”

Additionally, the legislation focuses on safeguarding the rights of concerned parents and veterans, with provisions to prevent the Department of Justice from targeting parents and block the Biden Administration from stripping veterans of their Second Amendment rights. It includes substantial cuts to agencies that have been weaponized against conservatives, including a 7% reduction in the ATF's budget and a 6% cut to the FBI's funding.

Moreover, the bill ensures full funding for veterans' healthcare and benefits, aligning with Congressman Joyce’s dedication to supporting the nation’s veterans. The FY24 appropriations funding is projected to save over $300 million compared to the budget proposed by President Biden, reflecting efforts to address wasteful spending while prioritizing critical areas such as veterans' well-being and community projects.
