The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has passed legislation aimed at freezing tuition for students attending the state's four state-related universities. Representative Jesse Topper, who serves as the Republican chairman of the House Education Committee, commented on the significance of this legislative move.
"This bill helps make the dream of higher education – whether for kids and families or someone looking to advance in or even start a new career – more accessible and affordable," stated Topper. He emphasized that the debate centered around assisting families across Pennsylvania.
Topper highlighted the collaborative effort involved in advancing this bill, stating, "The reason we were able to advance this bill today was because of leadership across the board, from here in the House to the university level. Positive things happen for Pennsylvanians when all sides come to the table in earnest and work through differences."
House Bill 612 proposes a tuition freeze for the 2024-25 academic year at four universities: University of Pittsburgh, Temple University, Lincoln University, and Penn State University. The bill will now be considered by the Senate.
