Senator Judy Ward and Representative Kerry Benninghoff have announced that Mifflin County will receive over $1.6 million in grant funding from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) for a community revitalization project.

“It was a pleasure to lend my support toward these important Mifflin County projects,” said Ward. She emphasized the significance of the Mifflin County Historical Courthouse, which houses several community organizations, and highlighted the importance of making improvements to enhance safety and functionality.

Benninghoff commended county officials for securing the competitive grants, stating, “These are competitive grants, and we applaud county officials for successfully pursuing this funding.” He expressed anticipation for the reopening of the library in the new year following renovations.

The project targets two key sites in downtown Lewistown: the Mifflin County Historic Courthouse and the Mifflin County Library. Both properties are owned by the county. The grant will fund non-structural upgrades to systems such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and ventilation/airflow.

RACP is a $3.1 billion initiative managed by the Office of the Budget that supports development projects enhancing economic, civic, cultural, recreational or historical aspects of communities.
