HARRISBURG – Representative Jim Gregory (R-Blair) has announced that more than $40 million will be allocated to Blair and Huntingdon counties to enhance access to reliable, high-speed internet. The funding comes as part of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority's initiative, which awarded grants to Alleghenies Broadband Inc., Comcast Cable Communications LLC, and Verizon Pennsylvania LLC for various projects in the region.

Gregory expressed his support for the initiative, stating, "I advocated for creating the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority because I recognize that improved access to high-quality internet service closes the digital divide in this state." The funding, made possible by the federally funded Broadband Infrastructure Program, aims to address areas lacking 25/3 Mbps internet service.

The development authority has put in place measures to ensure transparency and accountability, requiring grantees to provide quarterly and annual progress reports, along with guidance on state and federal regulations. It is stipulated that all allocated funds must be utilized by December 31, 2026.

This significant allocation of grants marks a milestone since the establishment of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority in 2021, reflecting the state's commitment to bridging the digital gap and enhancing internet accessibility for its residents.
