FOX 8 and ABC 23 Partners with AAHS Mt. Lion Television

In a partnership that began earlier this summer, FOX 8 and ABC 23 is working collaboratively with

Altoona Area High School students involved in the Mt. Lion Television (MLTV) program to produce a new

weekly sports show, The Zone with Referee Rich, hosted by Rich DeLeo. Production will take place

weekly in the new state-of-the art MLTV studio at the Altoona Area High School.

Station Manager Jim Pastore pitched the idea to AAHS Principal Andrew Neely and the AASD School

Board approved the partnership at the August 15th Board meeting. Students will be working on the set

alongside the team from FOX 8 and ABC 23 and will also provide student produced segments to be

included in the weekly show.

“This is a great opportunity for students in advanced Broadcasting classes to not only see how a show is

developed and produced but also, to have direct participation in a broadcast on a regular basis,” said

AAHS Broadcasting teacher Doug Sipes. AAHS Principal Andrew Neely agreed. The experience gives

students a real-life application of what they are learning in broadcasting. “This is an amazing opportunity

and we can’t be more excited to have something like this for our students.”

The show will air on Friday evenings at 10:35 p.m. on Fox 8. To see FOX 8 report, click

The MLTV program began during the 1998-1999 school year and has expanded to include a new studio

and enhanced curriculum that give students the skills necessary to function in a media-oriented society.

MLTV also produces and live streams Mt. Lion Football that can be viewed on the MLTV Live YouTube

Channel.
