Bedford County issued the following announcement on Mar. 10.
Please read the important message below concerning a survey being conducted by the County in support of an update to its federally mandated Hazard Mitigation Plan, and take a few minutes to go to the weblink included in the message. The deadline is March 25, 2022.
I am forwarding this message on behalf of the County Planning Commission and the Department of Emergency Services.
As you may know, Bedford County is updating its hazard mitigation plan (HMP). The HMP analyzes the hazards that impact our communities, evaluates our capabilities to reduce vulnerability to those hazards, and lays out our strategy for mitigating that vulnerability. Our consultant, Tetra Tech, has been analyzing the hazards that we discussed at our kickoff meeting back in November, and has almost completed the analysis. To make sure that all of the areas that are vulnerable to hazards in the county are addressed in the HMP, we have developed a simple online survey tool for you to fill out. This is your opportunity to provide maximum input on local issues, and will support the information many of you provided recently on written worksheets. Additionally, we ask that you make the public aware of this survey via your social media presence or other usual methods. If you do so, please forward documentation to me of how you reached out to the public.
Please visit the survey here (https://arcg.is/0zKOr8) and let us know where hazards impact your community. The survey gives you an opportunity to drop a pin on a map and provide some details about how hazards impact that location (such as a culvert gets overwhelmed, the streambank is eroding, the location is a hotspot for traffic accidents, etc.). Please complete the survey by Friday, March 25 to identify any particular problems to be addressed in the plan. Please contact me with any questions and thank you in advance for your assistance.
