The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has moved forward with a budget vehicle bill, despite it being 14 days past the start of the fiscal year. However, the bill remains unagreed upon by all parties involved.
House Republican Leader Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton) emphasized the need for further negotiation to ensure fiscal responsibility and economic growth. “House Republicans have been consistent from the beginning of this process that this or any future budget will be unsustainable if we do not prioritize economic growth in our policymaking,” Topper stated. He expressed his willingness to work towards a budget that aligns with these priorities, noting that the current spending plan is excessive and insufficient in promoting economic development.
Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana), Chairman of the House Republican Appropriations Committee, shared similar concerns regarding the budget passed by the House. He remarked on its lack of necessary details for it to be considered final. “Today’s vote on as amended represents a step in the right direction toward finalizing the budget, as House Democrats are starting to see the reality that the governor’s proposal simply spends too much,” Struzzi said. He voted against House Bill 1330 but remains hopeful for a compromise that addresses current spending obligations and prepares for future success.
