Two municipalities in Blair County, Pennsylvania, will receive a total of $626,583 for traffic improvements, according to an announcement by Representative Lou Schmitt and Senator Judy Ward. The funding aims to enhance traffic flow and safety in the area.
"This funding is a direct result of the recently enacted 2022-23 budget and I am glad Blair County is already seeing valued infrastructure funding come into the area," Schmitt stated. "This funding will greatly improve traffic flow and safety for motorists and pedestrians."
The allocations are as follows: Altoona will receive $266,644 for upgrading the traffic signal at Broad Avenue and 29th Street, while Logan Township will get $359,939 for modernizing the signal at East Pleasant Valley Road (SR 1001) and East Walton Avenue (Route 764).
Ward expressed satisfaction with the initiative: "The investments from this program will provide much-needed improvements to two major intersections in the City of Altoona along Broad Avenue and Logan Township along E. Pleasant Valley Boulevard," she said. "I am pleased that these state investments will help our local communities make these intersections more efficient and safer for motorists and pedestrians by upgrading the aging traffic signals."
These funds are part of the Green Light-Go program, which reimburses municipalities for improving existing traffic signals' efficiency and operation. Projects under this program can include installing LED technology, retiming signals, developing special event plans, monitoring signals, or upgrading them to current technologies.
