On June 3, 2024, Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) questioned former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci regarding his role in establishing the six-foot social distancing rule during the COVID-19 pandemic. The rule has been cited for its significant impact on students and businesses.
In previous testimony before the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, Dr. Fauci mentioned that the six-foot rule “sort of just appeared.” During today's hearing, Dr. Joyce, a member of the Select Subcommittee, pressed Dr. Fauci about this rule and its adverse long-term effects.
“But once we realized that the virus was not spread by droplets and was aerosolized, did you feel any indication to go back to the CDC and say, ‘Let’s base this on science?’ This six-foot rule crippled businesses; it allowed students to stay at home and not learn. Americans suffered. American suffering continues because of the fracture of trust between the American people and American scientists, which continues to this day,” asked Dr. Joyce.
