On March 26, 2024, Rep. Rich Irvin and Sen. Doug Mastriano made a significant announcement regarding funding for improvements at the Shippensburg Area Middle School campus.

The funding of $450,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Fund will be utilized for the construction of a new access road at the middle school located in Shippensburg Borough. Representative Rich Irvin emphasized the importance of student safety, stating, "Student safety is always the top priority, which is why this funding was requested." He further added, “Better management of vehicle traffic will ultimately benefit students, parents, school employees and area commuters. I was pleased to work with Sen. Mastriano to advocate for this needed funding.”

Senator Doug Mastriano expressed his support for the grant award after witnessing the traffic issues firsthand during a visit to Shippensburg Middle School, saying, “After seeing the dangerous traffic issue with my own eyes while on a visit to Shippensburg Middle School, I was very happy to throw my support behind this grant award.” Mastriano highlighted the positive impact of the grant, stating, “The grant will help Shippensburg School District construct a new access road to alleviate traffic concerns and facilitate the safe travel of students and pedestrians between the high school and middle school.”

The funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund aims to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable transportation system for the residents of the Commonwealth.
