State Rep. Lou Schmitt (R-Altoona) will host an event in Logan Township to help drivers replace damaged or illegible license plates. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 4-6 p.m. at the Newburg Fire Association.
“This event will make it fast and simple for drivers to start the process of replacing damaged or illegible license plates,” Schmitt said. “Over time, plates can wear down or become unreadable, and this is a convenient way to get the ball rolling on a replacement.”
Officers from the Logan Township Police Department will be present to inspect license plates and determine if they need replacement. A registration plate is considered illegible if any numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet away, or if there are signs of blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity.
Drivers who wish to participate must bring their vehicle with the affected plate attached, as well as an unexpired driver’s license and current vehicle registration card. According to information provided by organizers, PennDOT will provide an older style blue and yellow plate at no cost. Residents interested in receiving the new plate featuring the Liberty Bell can do so for $14, unless they are replacing a personalized plate, in which case it is free.
