The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has moved forward with a budget vehicle bill that remains unagreed upon, two weeks after the start of the fiscal year. House Republican Leader Jesse Topper expressed the need for more negotiations to ensure fiscal responsibility and economic growth.
“House Republicans have been consistent from the beginning of this process that this or any future budget will be unsustainable if we do not prioritize economic growth in our policymaking,” said Topper. He acknowledged the majority’s efforts to advance the budget but criticized the current spending plan for excessive expenditure without sufficient focus on economic development. Topper emphasized the importance of negotiating a budget that balances fiscal responsibility with economic growth.
Jim Struzzi, Chairman of the House Republican Appropriations Committee, also commented on the situation. “Today’s vote on House Bill 1330 as amended represents a step in the right direction toward finalizing the budget, as House Democrats are starting to see the reality that the governor’s proposal simply spends too much,” Struzzi stated. However, he noted that many details remain unresolved, leading him to vote against House Bill 1330. Struzzi expressed hope for a future compromise that meets current spending obligations and prepares for future success.
