Rep. Scott Barger (R-Blair/Huntingdon) has introduced a bill in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives that would require entities receiving state grants to use the federal E-Verify system. The proposed legislation aims to ensure that new hires by grant recipients are legally authorized to work in the United States.

Barger stated, “Commonwealth grants should be designated for responsible employers with a lawful workforce, not entities whose laborers work in the shadows. This bill would give taxpayers additional peace of mind when it comes to knowing who is on job sites across our state.”

The bill, known as House Bill 1781, is expected to be referred to the House Labor and Industry Committee for consideration.
